SSLC / Matric / OSLC / Anglo Indian / 10th / Tenth - Exam Results 2008
Saturday, May 31, 2008 - Class X students of the SSLC stream recorded a marginal increase in pass percentage this year, with 80.9 percent of the nearly 8 lakh candidates passing the public examination held in March.

Girls secured a pass percentage of 83.9, once again outshining boys who scored 77.8 per cent.

As many as 11,605 students of the SSLC stream secured centum in Mathematics this year, a big leap from last year's 2,512. The number of centum in Science and Social Science also increased significantly, to 1,591 and 272.

In the Matriculation stream, over 2,000 students scored centum in Mathematics.

Queried on the marking scheme adopted for candidates whose answer sheets (English II) got burnt in a fire in Vellore on April 24, Director of Government Examinations Vasanthi Jeevanandam said their marks in English I and the average mark of the four remaining subjects were compared and they were awarded the higher score of the two.

R. Ram Ambigai of St. Ignatius Convent Higher Secondary School, Palayamkottai, topped the State in the S.S.L.C. stream with a total of 496.

V. Abhirami of S.S.M. Lakshmiammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Komarapalayam, emerged topper in the Matriculation stream with 489.

This year's Class X results are significant as the State Government has decided to maintain the maximum total marks of all streams (SSLC, Matriculation, O.S.L.C. and Anglo Indian) at 500.

Before the results were compiled, the marks of students from Matriculation and Anglo Indian streams were converted to percentages in every subject, enabling the Department to declare the results with 500 as the maximum total marks for all four streams.

Explaining the methodology of conversion while declaring the results here on Friday, Ms. Jeevanandam said a candidate in the Matriculation stream would have taken Language (parts I and II), English (I and II), Mathematics (I and II), Social Science (I and II), and Science (I, II and practicals) papers.

The individual marks obtained in part I and II of papers other than Science were averaged to obtain a percentage. For the science paper, the marks out of 200 and the score in the practical component out of 100 were added and divided by three.

For students in the Anglo Indian stream, who took each paper for 200 marks, individual subject marks were converted to percentages, for a total of 500.

For the O.S.L.C students, who took their Language paper in three parts for 100 marks each, their total language score out of 300 was converted to scores out of 200, enabling their total of 600 till last year to be changed to 500 now.
