The workshop on “BASIC CONCEPTS OF ASEISMIC DESIGN" is organized to impart the knowledge of seismic resistant design of structures to the participants. Ductile detailing is provided in structure so as to give them adequate toughness. Every design code recognizes the importance of ductility in design, because if a structure is ductile, its ability to absorb energy without critical failure increases. Ductility behaviour allows a structure to undergo large plastic deformation with little decrease in strength.
