TNPSC Group I exam held

Salem: As many as 4,245 candidates appeared for the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) Group 1 examination in the district on Sunday.

The examination was conducted at 15 locations. District Collector S.Prabakar inspected the centre at Sengunthar Higher Secondary School. There was 64.5 percent attendance. Out of 6,577 applicants, 2,332 candidates did not turn up, official sources said.

A large number of candidates appeared for the TNPSC Group I examination held in the four western districts of Salem, Namakkal, Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri.

The TNPSC conducted the examinations to select candidates for the post of deputy collectors, deputy superintendents of police, assistance commissioners, district registrars, district employment officers, divisional fire and rescue service officers.

The examination was held in 22 centres in Salem district. Of the 11,952 candidates who received the hall tickets, 7,721 turned up at the examination halls. The members of the eight flying squads visited various centres to monitor the examinations.

District Collector V. Sampath visited the examination centres at the Sona College of Technology and Thiyagarajar Polytechnic College and inspected the facilities provided for those attending the examinations. Tight security was in place at the examination centres.


A total of 3,485 men and women, of the 5,294 candidates who received the hall tickets, appeared for the examinations in 16 different centres in Namakkal district. About 35 per cent of the candidates did not turn up for examination. M. Asia Mariam, District Collector, made surprise visit to the examination centre at Government Higher Secondary School-North in Namakkal town and inspected the holding of examination.


Of the 4,637 candidates who got the hall tickets, 2,824 candidates turned up at the examination halls in 16 centres in Krishnagiri district. A total of 1,813 candidates abstained.

C. Kathiravan, District Collector, paid surprise visit to the centre at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Krishnagiri town and monitored the peaceful holding of examinations.


About 70 per cent of the 6,823 candidates turned up for the TNPSC examinations held in 16 centres in Dharmapuri district. Drinking water and other facilities were in place in all the centres. The District Collector K. Vivekanandan visited a few centres.
