Higher Secondary Examination (HSC) / +2 (State Board) / XII / 12th - Results 2011

Monday, 09 May 2011: Class XII students have recorded a pass percentage of 85.9 in the Higher Secondary Examination of the State Board that nearly 8 lakh students took in March this year. This year's pass percentage represents a marginal increase over last year's figure of 85.2.

The results were declared by the Directorate of Government Examinations here on Monday. This batch of students has also broken the record of its immediate seniors, scoring the highest pass percentage in the last decade.

Though there is an increase in both the number of boys and girls passing the examination, girls have outdone boys yet again. They recorded a pass percentage of 89, which is 6.7 percentage points over that of boys, whose pass percentage is 82.3.

While a total of 2,720 students secured centum in Mathematics, as many as 1,320 scored centum in Accountancy. There were 1,243 students who scored full marks in Chemistry and 1,167, in Commerce.

Among students who studied Tamil as their first language, K.Rekha (1,190/1,200) of Sri Vijay Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Hosur, obtained the first rank in the State. S.Velmurugan (1,187) of Bharathi Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, secured the second rank.

The third rank was shared by four students – D.Vidya Sakuntala, S.J.S.S.J Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Tirunelveli; N.Raghunath, T.M.H.N.U. Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Periyakulam; P.Sindhukavi, Kurinji Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Namakkal and P.S.Rekha, Sri Vijay Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Hosur. All of them scored a total of 1,186 marks.

In the category of students who studied Tamil or any other language as first language, K.Sandhya of S.R.D.F.Vivekananda Vidyalaya Higher Secondary School, Chromepet, obtained the first rank with a total of 1,191 out of 1,200.

As per this list, K.Rekha of Sri Vijay Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Hosur, and V.R.Jayapradha of Vidyodaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chennai, shared the second rank.

They scored a total of 1,190. S.Mahalakshmi of H.F.C. Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chengalpattu, scored 1,189 marks, obtaining the third rank in the State.

Speaking to The Hindu, School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu said he was delighted at the overall improvement in performance, particularly that of girls.

Students who wish to apply for photocopies of their answer scripts or for retotalling can obtain the forms from the offices of the respective Chief Educational Officers or the District Educational Officers from May 11 to May 16.

The number of centums is less in Mathematics compared to last year. The number of centums in individual subjects for the past five years:

School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu said it was heartening to see toppers emerge from smaller towns, in addition to those from the big cities.

“The overall performance is very good. While the number of centums in mathematics may have gone down, the pass percentage in the subject is still good. It is also nice to see toppers coming from my district (Virudhunagar) for about 25 years now,” he added.
