                  Friday, 01 June 2007 - Girls recorded a higher pass percentage 
                  than boys in all four streams (SSLC, Matriculation, Anglo Indian 
                  and OSLC) of the Class Ten examinations held in March. 
                  Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Director of 
                  Government Examinations Vasanthi Jeevanandam said the overall 
                  pass percentage in the SSLC stream, in which nearly 7.73 lakh 
                  students appeared (through schools), was 79.5, a 1.9 percentage 
                  point increase from last year. Girls recorded a pass percentage 
                  of 83 while 76 per cent of the boys passed.

                  A considerable fall in the number of centums in Mathematics 
                  was observed. Only 2,512 candidates scored centums in Mathematics. 
                  Last year 13,033 candidates had scored centums. Sixty-six students 
                  scored centums in Science and 10 in Social Science. 
                  In the Matriculation stream, 93.1 per cent of the students passed. 
                  Girls recorded a pass percentage of 94.8 and boys, 91.4. More 
                  than a lakh students appeared for the examinations of whom 1,517 
                  scored centum in Mathematics and 61 in Science. 
                  The pass percentage of students in the Anglo Indian stream was 
                  94.4. Girls recorded a pass percentage of 97.7 and boys, 91.1.
