Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering or SVCE as it is commonly called is one of the first private engineering colleges to start functioning in Tamil nadu. Over the years SVCE has become a college of repute and one of the most sought after and envied colleges. The colleges boasts of high quality infrastructure and highly reputed faculties.
From the year 1985 to 2004 the college had retained the numero uno of being the best private engineering college in TN. After 2004 till date its ranked as the 2nd best engg college after SSN.
SVCE is the first engineering college in India to start a course called Information technology (IT) in 1996. SVCE was also among the first few private colleges in the country to set up the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) and it was also the first engineering college in India to start a course called BE-Marine Engineering, which is approved by Director of Shipping.
The college has more than 50 percentage of its alumni in the USA and UK. Its a known fact that SVCE has been sending the highest number of its students abroad for higher studies. Every university in the USA has atleast one SVCE alumni. Such is the reputation of the college. The college shrugs away from publicity and hence its hard to find even one advertisement in newspaper or the internet, which is unlike many colleges.
Most of the final year students opt for higher studies, while the rest who opt for placement find jobs in most sought after core companies. The college has been able to attract companies of high repute every year. The distinction of the college when compared to other colleges in the state who have the same 100percent placement is that, a number of student find jobs in core companies related to their field rather than the regular IT companies. It is difficult to get into svce through DOTE as one need very high credentials. An OC Category seat for ECE (2008 Data) shows that the minimum cut off was 197.25 and for the upcoming new branches like BE-Automobile it was 194.5.
The college is accreditted by NBA and by NAAC.
