Asan Memorial College of Arts & Science
is co-educational and it offers, interalia, Courses on Computer
Application, Management, Commerce & Science. The cherished
objective of the Institution is to equip youngmen and women
students with knowledge in respective job oriented subjects
, good character and true sense of human values. In addition
to imparting education with ability to face the challenges and
requirements of life, this institution endeavours to conserve
the rich traditions and culture of this great country, by imbibing
them on a sound sense of respect for our heritage.
This College functions on self-financing basis. No grant is
obtained from Government or any funding Agency to meet capital
expenditure or day-to-day expenses. It sustains itself on the
self generated funds for its establishment and development.
The College, equipped well with all the necessary infrastructural
facilities, consists of an array of imposing architecturally
and aesthetically appealing buildings on a sprawling campus
spread over 12 acres.
The College was formally inaugurated by His Excellency Mr.K.R.Narayanan,
the then Honourable Vice President of India on 10th December,
1994 in the presence of His Excellency Vakkom Purushothaman,
Lt. Governor of Andaman & Nicobar.
The College is managed by Asan Memorial Association (Regd.)
Chennai, registered under Society Act., founded in memory of
the great Malayalam poet Mahakavi Kumaran Asan of Kerala. The
Governing Body consists of eminent persons from different walks
of life, who are devoted and highly dedicated to the Association.
Shri.A.K.Gopalan, continues to be the guiding supremo
and the moving spirit behind the Asan Memorial Educational Institutions.
The College Management Committee functions also with the representatives
of staff as members.

The College is located in a twelve acre campus
at Jaladampet on Velachery-Tambaram Road, about 20 kms from
the heart of Chennai City and about 10 kms, from Saidapet. The
Campus is beautifully laid out and developed with landscaped
gardens and excellent facilities for sports and games. A large
and impressive auditorium with a seating capacity of 1000 is
also available for developing innate artistic skills of students.The
College has spacious, impressive and well laid-out class rooms,
libraries and laboratories.
Dept. of Hotel
& Catering Management has an excellent infrastructure
with digital classroom. Well-equipped training and advanced
kitchens and bakery. Front Office Reception equipped with computerized
Hotel Management Software - 50 cover training restaurant and
pantry, mock single and twin bed rooms and well equipped storeroom.
Compulsory 4 months of industrial exposure training at various
world-renowned five, four and three star hotels to equip the
students with job oriented skills.
Dept. of
Visual Communication aims to prepare talented students
for careers in multimedia, advertising, television, radio, cinema
and newspapers. The department emphasizes learning through individual
attention in a positive environment and offers students many
outlets to exhibit their work within and outside the college.
The Visual Communication course here is designed to educate
and develop artistic and imaginative students for careers in
the fields of media, commercial art and design. Emphasis is
placed on the development of the thinking process and the ability
to conceive creative solutions for specified design problems.
Students will learn the principles, practical applications and
methodologies used in completing competent and creative graphic
solutions.
During the curriculum, students will build a portfolio of projects
from each of their subjects This final portfolio project allows
students to build upon the skills learned in some of the required
subjects, which include: Drawing, Graphic Design, Photography,
Computer graphics, Web Design, 2D Animation, 3D Animation, Television
Production, Ad Photography, Digital Film Making.
On the whole, the students are prepared to face the challenges
in the digital media industry and the new developments occurring
across multiple platforms and environments.
The Institute / College buses which cover almost the entire
city are also available for the benefit of the students and
staff on all working days.
Library:
The College has spacious library with an excellent collection
of general and subject books, magazines, journals and periodicals.
On an average, the library has around 90-95 users per day.
Hostel: Hostel accommodation is provided
separately for boys and girls. The hostel is located in a spacious
multistoreyed building. Wholesome food (Vegetarian & Non-
Vegetarian ) is provided to the students. It is really a home
away from home.

Le Royal Meridien, Residency Group of Hotels, Hotel Aadithya
& Hotel Breeze, Air India, Carnival Cruise lines, Costa
& Royal Caribben Cruise lines, T.V.S Clayton & G.E Capital.
Microbiology Students are placed in Pharmaceutical Industries,
Breweries, Food Processing Industries & Hospitals. Biochemistry
Students are placed in Clinical; laboratories, Pharmaceutical
Industries, Dye & Leather Industry's Research Department
etc. B.Com & B.B.A Graduates obtain there placements in
Reputed Private banks, M.N.Cs, Leading Audit & Advertising
Agencies. Computer Graduates are well placed in leading Software
Industries.
